yousonofabitchonebecametworunawayrival ( Character's Name ) : Isaac Morton ( Character's Age ) : 16 (estimate) ( Series ) :Makai Ouji: Devils and Realist ( Canon Point ) : post Chapter 36 ( Playability ) : n/a
( History ) :
There’s not a whole lot known about Isaac’s past. He seems to have lead a life that would be considered normal for a wealthy youth with loving parents in the early Victorian era. He was born the second son of a wealthy self made merchant. He seems to maintain a healthy relationship with both his family and the servants of the Morton household.
He currently attends the prestigious and expensive Stratford Public School. At some point during his time there he somehow became the best friend of William Twining despite their differences (William being a star pupil who loves science and denies the existence of the supernatural, Isaac being a spacy occult fanatic who frequently does poorly on tests).
After discovering his friend William is the descendent of King Solomon and the inheritor of his soul, Isaac is more than happy to go along with him in various shenanigans that involve demons, angels and the world of the supernatural in general. His vast nearly encyclopedic knowledge of the occult comes in very useful, and he provides a lot of useful information regarding the supernatural beings they encounter throughout their escapades.
Recently he and his friend William have begun undertaking magic lessons from the magician, Master Mathers in order to have some defense against the forces of heaven and hell who like to push humanity around.
( Personality ) :
Isaac is slightly more than just a little eccentric. He believes in demons, angels, fairies, trolls, ghosts... not only does he believe in them he practically has a single minded obsession with them. He LIVES to learn about the occult. Every second of the day that isn't spent sleeping or hanging out with his best friend William is devoted to research into the supernatural. He is addicted to his research and finding out each and every little detail in regards to demons and the like. If you happen to name a demon or mythological creature the chances are high that he'll be able to rattle off a list of facts about it. He is incredibly proud about the vastness of his mythological knowledge and takes any opportunity he can to show that off.
He absolutely ADORES the supernatural to the point where one might term him a nightmare fetishist. His reaction to seeing a horde of hideous demons who might honestly like to eat the flesh off his bones? To look at them in amazement with stars in his eyes and a big grin on his face… until someone manages to drag him away. Likewise is he far too delighted when he finds himself in Hell for a brief period of time. To him it was an amazing experience, he’d honestly love to visit there again. Frequently if possible.
He’s quite proud of his magical abilities as well. He’s a bit of a natural at it, and at the series start already has the ability to summon fairly powerful demon beasts… though he wasn’t able to control them until much later after some instruction from Master Mathers. But still! He has a natural talent for it that, so far, his best friend William the genius hasn’t quite grasped yet. He has a few smug moments over this during their joint lessons, but doesn’t rub it in too much. He knows when to stop because ehe doesn’t want to get one of his only friends mad at him.
He tends to be a bit of a space case, and daydreams a lot. Or just flat out doesn’t pay attention if the topic at hand bores him. Which happens to be most things if not related to the occult somehow. That’s probably why he tends to do so poorly in school. He just doesn’t care about the subject matter at all. Of course he does care that he gets poor grades. It’s a constant source of frustration for him that he is consistently near the rock bottom in terms of grades. Of course it doesn’t make him stop drawing demon power diagrams and memorizing grimoires in the middle of class either. It has of course been pointed out to him before that if he used even an ounce of his memorization capabilities that he has for the occult towards his actual academic s he’d probably be close to the top of the class. He seems to be in agreement with that fact but gosh darn it do the lessons really bore him.
While he’s incredibly friendly and outgoing and always willing to talk or hang out, and he is certainly never rude or standoffish, Isaac doesn’t have a whole lot of friends. One might think that’s because his bizarre interests and hobbies scare everyone else off… and that’s certainly a small part of the reason. Most people wouldn’t want to associate themselves with a boy who dresses in a cloak and runs off in the middle of the night to perform magical rituals in the forest behind the school. But he also is the type who find ordinary people too… ordinary. Normal humans are EVERYWHERE. He wants to befriend demons and fairies and witches and all manner of nonhuman. In fact the reason why he became friends with William (a rigid realist who dismisses each and every one of Isaac’s fantasies without a second thought) was because he always felt there was something special about him. He’s ecstatic when he discovers he’s correct after learning William has a special soul that gives him the power to choose the next king of hell.
The people he does associate with he generally gets along with very well. There’s almost no way of getting him mad. Tell him he’s a ridiculous fool for thinking that a photo of some branches in some water is actually a lake monster? He will laugh and show you something else just as crazy, and then tell you what a wonderful and invigorating debate it's been. He is quite devoted to those he is close to, and would honestly do anything for a truly close friend.
( Strengths/Weaknesses ) :
He has a knowledge of the occult that, in universe, is probably only matched and exceeded by Master Mathers. However he’s pretty much super dumb with absolutely any other topic other than that. He does however have an extensive knowledge of spices and teas as that’s what his family trades in.
He is a beginner magician and has the ability to create energy projectiles strong enough to blast a hole in a good sized tree. He can also summon and control some demon beasts, though losing control and them going crazy can happen if they’re too powerful. He also claims to be able to create a blend of herbal tea that acts as a love potion but how well it works is debatable.
( Other Important Facts ) :
He is the second son of spice and tea merchants. His family also owns spice grinding factories in India. One of which is completely run by a fairy in the employ of the family.
He comes from England in the year 1871. The year was not mentioned exactly in the series, but after referencing a major event that that is mentioned within the series ( a massacre in Paris ) as well as several scientific developments, with real world events and developments, I am extremely confident with my guess.
( Sample ) :
[ Isaac was settling in nicely in the city of Vatheon. It was such a fascinating place! Not quite as fascinating as Hell, but still pretty interesting! There were so many people from other worlds too. Demons and fairies and even these wonderful creatures called pokemon! His life had been a whirl of going out and meeting all the different sorts of folk and collecting information. He was constantly just so excited about everything and everyone he could just pop!
This morning was particularly exciting though. He heard that there were monsters attacking Vatheon! It had always been a dream of his to meet a giant serpent or sea monster. There was a problem though. And what better way to address that problem then by using that wondrous SFC device! ]
Good morning! Sorry to disrupt but I was told there were monsters attacking! And as you can see…
[ He frowns a little before pointing the camera at the open water. There was nothing but blue. If there were any monsters about they were certainly well hidden. ]
…There’s not a single one around! I’ve been out here on this rowboat all morning and I’ve seen neither hide nor hair of them. Or would ‘niether fin nor scale of them’ be more appropriate in this situation?
[ He turns the video back to himself, his pout transforming into a bright grin. And yes he is in fact currently sitting in a small rowboat in the ocean looking for a giant sea monster. Yes he thinks this is a very good idea. No he doesn’t really have a sense of self-preservation here. ]
But anyways! I’m certain they must be around somewhere! I’d love to get a good look at least one of them! Maybe ask him a few questions if he’s feeling chatty… I think I’m getting off topic! What I meant to ask here is if anyone know the best way to find one? I’d be very grateful for any help!
( Questions? Comments? Concerns? ) :
Just a note, I'm playing him from the manga but I might be using anime icons for him since they're already in color and several chapters of Makai Ouji suffer from questionable quality scans that woudl take a while to clean and color
